The Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S) is seeking a highly motivated, proactive intern to support its work in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Department. Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 100 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

Internship in the Middle East and North Africa Department

Main function: Assist the work of the Middle East and North Africa team

Starting date: As soon as possible

Duration: Until 31 May 2016             

Department: Middle East and North Africa (MENA)

Remuneration: EUR 450 per month

 Location: TI Secretariat, Berlin, Germany

Key tasks:

  • Assist with the implementation of the Transparency International Middle East and North Africa regional work, particularly the project “National Integrity Systems (NIS) Assessments in European Neighbourhood South – Phase II”
  • Assist in the preparation of workshops, conferences and trainings
  • Liaise with contact groups and National Chapters on various issues
  • Assist with the preparation of TI presentations and other documents to external interlocutors
  • Undertake desk research in support of programme activities
  • Support to all members of the department, including various administrative and budget management tasks

Knowledge, experience, interests and skills:

  • Enrolled student in social science, political and economic disciplines or other relevant fields
  • Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken) is a requirement; a working knowledge of Arabic (standard and/or colloquial) is highly desired; knowledge of French would be a strong asset
  • Some knowledge of, and considerable interest in, the work of TI and the field of anti-corruption and advocacy
  • Knowledge of, or demonstrated interest in, the Middle East and North Africa region
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to conduct research autonomously
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail (some prior office experience desirable)
