CODESRIA Call for Proposals: Comparative Research Networks 2012 Within the framework of its strategy for building comparative knowledge on Africa produced from within the African continent, the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) invites proposals from researchers based in African universities and centres of research for the constitution of Comparative Research Networks (CRNs) to undertake studies on or around any of the themes identified as priority research themes within the framework of the Council’s strategic plan for the period 2012 – 2016. The primary purpose of CRNs is to encourage the development and consolidation of a comparative analytic perspective in the work of African social researchers. In so doing, it is hoped to establish a strong corpus of comparative studies produced by African scholars that could help to advance theoretical knowledge and discussion. Call for Proposals: Central Eurasia Project The Open Society Central Eurasia Project uses grantmaking to international and regional NGOs, academic institutions, think tanks and other structures to support their work, help build local capacity, bring international expertise to bear on the region, and promote cooperation between local activists and international civic movements. The ultimate goal of such activity is to strengthen civic leaders in the region and to construct support networks for them within international structures and movements. Central Eurasia Project grantmaking generally dovetails with its research and advocacy agenda. Funds are currently available in the following programmatic areas: Human Rights; Labor Migration; Transparency and Consumer Protection; Transparency of Western Military and Security Cooperation; Turkmenistan; Uzbekistan. Core and Institutional Support to Policy Research Centers The Think Tank Fund of the Open Society Foundations requests proposals from independent, nonpartisan multi-issue public policy centers working in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo, and Ukraine to promote inclusive policy change. "Inclusive policy change" refers to a policymaking process that is open, transparent, and responsive to the public interest. The Think Tank Fund aims to support policy centers that strengthen democratic processes in their countries by identifying and analyzing policy options, consulting with the government to advance their recommendations, involving stakeholders outside government circles in policy debates, and making their findings widely available to the public. Thus, while potential grantees should engage with public authorities, the Think Tank Fund also seeks to fund organizations that galvanize public interest and debate about the issues on which they are working. The fund currently directs its support primarily to organizations that work on economic, political and social reform issues in their countries.
