Dear Mr. Ismail,

Some suggestions you might find helpful in thinking about anti-corruption design in the executive and legislative branches of government:

  • National Integrity Studies (NIS): The NIS assessment approach provides a framework which anti-corruption organisations can use to analyse both the extent and causes of corruption in a given country as well as the effectiveness of national anti-corruption efforts.

The research exercise focuses on an evaluation of the key public institutions and non-state actors in a country’s governance system with regard to (1) their overall capacity, (2), their internal governance systems and procedures, and (3) their role in the overall integrity system. These institutions are: Legislature, Executive, Judiciary, Public Sector, Law Enforcement Agencies, Electoral Management Bodies, Ombudsman, Supreme Audit Institution, Anti-corruption agencies, Political Parties, Media, Civil Society, Business. More information on this can be found here: http://www.transparency.org/policy_research/nis

  • The thematic areas on Political Corruption on the U4 Anti-Corruption Resources site has some good qualitative reports on the issue: http://www.u4.no/themes/political-corruption/main.cfm
  • U4 Expert Answer on Corruption and Public Sector Reform: http://www.u4.no/helpdesk/helpdesk/query.cfm?id=168

  • Broad overview of corruption in the MENA region: http://www.u4.no/helpdesk/helpdesk/query.cfm?id=151

I hope this is of some help.

Best,

Farzana
