Transparency International School on Integrity 2016 – the global meeting of young leaders

The Transparency International School on Integrity is held every year in Vilnius

What is the TI School on Integrity?

Transparency International‘s School on Integrity is an annual state-of-the-art anti-corruption and accountability training for future leaders. Over the past six years the TI School on Integrity has become the go-to event for senior students and young professionals from all over the world.  Since 2010, the School has welcomed almost 700 youth leaders from around 90 countries worldwide, who each year spent seven intensive days learning from leading accountability professionals, and from one another.

What makes the TI School on Integrity exceptional?

Imagine spending one of the hottest weeks of this summer in one of the most vibrant and picturesque capitals of Europe – Vilnius! And it doesn‘t stop there: day and night you will be surrounded by like-minded young professionals from across the globe. Some of them might be public officials, while others could be representatives of the private sector, entreperneurs or members of the academic community. Nevertheless, all of them are unified by a common factor – every single one is a true champion-in-the-making for transparency and accountability and everyone has something different and unique to share. As Karim, a participant of the 2015 school, put it: At the TI School on Integrity I felt that I was growing with every conversation I had during the training”. Put simply, the TI School on Integrity is a place where people inspire and get inspired.

The TI School on Integrity empowers participants by bringing together leading young professionals today, so they can make changes tomorrow. Dumisani Mthombeni, from Zimbabwe, could not have put it better when he said: Without a doubt the youth is a very relevant stakeholder in the fight against corruption. We hold the future in our hands and we should be part of the solution finding process. Let’s make use of our majority and let our voices be heard”.

Do you feel like you have heard all that before? Well at the TI School on Integrity we practice what we preach! Alongside the intensive lectures and workshops, during the week we are constantly on the look-out for participants with innovative and game changing-ideas for bringing more accountabily to the corrupt. Every day, participants receive mentoring from the lecturers and other visiting experts, at the same time as networking and pitching their ideas amongst their peers.

The most innovative, novel and promising concepts receive mini-grants of up to 5000 Euros, and the continuous mentorship of TI School on Integrity‘s team even after the School itself. The winner of one of these grants at the 2013 school, David Riveros García from Paraguay, has had quite an experience with fighting corruption. David says “I will never forget the police coming after me; appearing on the front page of local newspapers with the title of ‘vandal”.

Well...sometimes this is how change begins!

Needless to say, every country and society has their own challanges. The environment at the TI School on Integrity is shaped in a manner that allows initial notions to form, grow and gather support.
